Ukraine risks losing 12 million tons of future grain harvest due to port issues

If Ukraine is unable to restore full-scale agricultural exports through sea ports within the next six months, farmers may reduce planting areas. In such a case, grain production in 2027 could decrease by 12 million tons. This stress scenario was outlined by Kernel's CEO Yevhen Osipov, Interfax-Ukraine reports. According to him, in the absence of a decision regarding maritime logistics, agricultural companies will be forced to revise their planting plans. "If a physical solution is not found, then objectively, planting areas will be reduced. We assessed this stress scenario as an underproduction of 12 million tons of grain next year," Osipov stated. Kernel estimates that if restrictions on the operation of sea ports are maintained, Ukraine will be able to export about 20 million tons of agricultural products, while the total need is approximately 50 million tons.
