The Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology (KMI, Director Cho Jung-hee) announced the results of the "Legal and Institutional Research for the Introduction of Fishing Village Development Special Zones" and proposed the introduction of "Fishing Village Development Special Zones" to inject new vitality into fishing villages facing extinction. This research focused on creating a legal basis that can actually function in the fishing village field through the complete revision of the "Special Act on Support for Specialized Development of Fishing Villages." According to the research, if special zones are introduced, it is estimated that more than 18,000 jobs will be created nationwide and trillions of won in production will be induced, which is expected to greatly contribute to the revitalization of the fishing village economy.
