Russian attacks on food depots raise concerns about supply in Ukraine

Russian attacks on warehouses and logistics centers of Ukraine's major supermarket chains destroyed a significant portion of the facilities intended for food storage and caused shortages of some products in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and other areas of the country, while some consumers began to stockpile supplies in anticipation of further supply disruptions. Since Saturday, the attacks have damaged warehouses of ATB, Ukraine's largest retail chain, in Kyiv and Odesa, a PepsiCo plant in the southern city of Mykolaiv, and depots of the Auchan hypermarket chain located near the capital. The affected companies also include major retailers Novus and Fozzy, which have been reorganizing their logistics since the escalation of attacks in early August. Ukrainian authorities maintain that, despite the damage, there is no threat of widespread food shortages.
