Peru exports 1,798 tons of fresh grapes to the U.S. in cold storage on ships

A shipment of 1,798 tons of Peruvian grapes has been dispatched for the United States from the port of Paracas, Ica, using a revolutionary cold treatment in transit system. This system involves storing agricultural products in refrigerated warehouses on ships, a first in Peruvian agricultural exports, following phytosanitary certifications by the National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa) in December. The grapes are produced in the regions of Ica and Arequipa and are the first of three scheduled shipments this month to the US. This innovation is a response to the global issue of container shortages and demonstrates Senasa's innovation and leadership in the agricultural export sector.

The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) reported that a new shipment of 1,798 tons of Peruvian grapes left for the United States from the port of Paracas, in Ica, using the innovative system of cold treatment in transit that the sector presented to preserve agricultural products in refrigerated warehouses on ships. This is done after, last December, the National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa) began phytosanitary certifications for the export of fresh fruit in refrigerated warehouses on ships, marking a historic achievement for Peruvian agricultural exports, since it was the first time that a shipment was made under this innovative system.
