Mokpo City, first in the nation for shellfish exports in the first half of the year

Mokpo City in South Jeolla Province recorded $81.26 million in seaweed exports in the first half of this year, securing the top position among all local governments in the country. According to Mokpo City, this is a 6% increase from the same period last year ($76.67 million). Seaweed exports accounted for 88% of the total exports of $92.16 million in the first half, driving the performance. Last year, Mokpo City also achieved the highest record of $133.08 million in seaweed exports, securing the top position nationwide. To foster the seaweed industry, including the seafood industry, as a strategic industry, Mokpo City plans to invest a total of 113.7 billion won by 2026 in two buildings with a total floor area of 46,612 square meters.
