This year's barley harvest in the region amounts to 63,500 tons from the sown 113,000 decares, reported the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency citing data from the Regional Directorate of Agriculture. The currently reported average wheat yields in the region are 595 kg per decare, and for barley, 574 kg/decare. "The situation this year is better compared to last, but the problem remains the price," commented for BTA Stoyan Aleksandrov, a member of the Management Board of the Agricultural Academy and chairman of the industry union in Yambol region. According to him, currently wheat is being bought at prices between 30 and 35 stotinki per kilogram, which is below the production cost.
