Agreement signed to strengthen response to international regulations for distant-water fisheries and to collaborate on fishery resources management

The Korea Fisheries Resources Agency (President Kim Jong-duk) and the Korea Deep Sea Fishing Industry Association (Chairman Moon Hae-nam) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to respond to international regulations for deep-sea fishing and to strengthen the fisheries resource management system. The signing ceremony, held in the main conference room of the Korea Deep Sea Fishing Industry Association on the 14th, was established to respond to strengthened international fishery regulations and to improve the sustainability and competitiveness of deep-sea fishing. Through the MOU, the two organizations plan to cooperate in various areas such as activating communication between deep-sea shipping companies, discovering and improving on-site issues, sharing information related to the development of new overseas fishing grounds, and operating regular consultation bodies. In particular, the agreement includes expanding the mandatory boarding of international observers, etc., to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
