According to Kalverliefde, climate figures based on emissions per kilo of milk disadvantage extensive farms, while emissions per hectare or per cow present a different picture. The carbon footprint of the eight farms was calculated by Robin Food Coalition, based on farm data from 2024 and 2025, using the internationally used Cool Farm Tool. The emissions were expressed per kilo of fat and protein corrected milk (FPCM), per hectare, and per dairy cow. Additionally, an intensive conventional reference farm was compiled to compare the results. The calculations show that the eight Kalverliefde farms emit an average of 9.2 tons of CO2 equivalents per hectare, compared to 26.8 tons for the reference farm. That is a difference of 66 percent. Per dairy cow, the emissions amount to an average of 7.6 tons of CO2 equivalents, compared to 14.6 tons for the reference farm. That is 47 percent lower.
