Chinese jujube floods the Vietnamese market, priced at only 30,000 VND/kg

Jujubes, also known as the "miracle fruit" or "medicinal apples," have inundated Vietnamese markets with their low prices, making them more accessible and popular than ever. Originating from China, these fruits are advertised for their anti-aging properties and are believed to offer numerous health benefits. The price drop is attributed to increased production and importation, particularly from China, which is the largest producer. Jujubes are now sold at record-low prices, with some retailers offering as low as 50,000 VND/kg for fresh jujubes and 160,000 VND/5kg box for dried jujubes. The surge in sales is largely driven by women, who make up a significant portion of the consumer base. Jujubes are praised for their delicious taste, crunchy texture, and the belief that they can extend life and improve overall health.

In recent years, jujubes have flooded into Vietnamese markets in large quantities. Notably, although they are considered “medicinal apples” or “miracle” fruits, jujubes are becoming increasingly cheaper. At this time, fresh jujubes or dried jujubes are sold everywhere in markets, stores and supermarkets. Accordingly, the price of fresh products is commonly around 30,000-70,000 VND/kg - the cheapest ever. Having sold fresh jujubes for 7 years now, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu - a fruit dealer in Cau Giay (Hanoi), admitted that this “miracle” fruit from China is now the cheapest it has ever been. The fresh jujubes she imports are packaged in styrofoam boxes. At the beginning of the season, the price was up to 130,000 VND/kg, then gradually decreased. In recent days, she has been selling jujubes in large quantities, at only 50,000 VND/kg for retail customers. For wholesalers, the price of jujube is only 160,000 VND/5kg box (about 32,000 VND/kg).
