Canadian health authorities are conducting an investigation into Salmonella infections linked to pistachios and products containing them. The case involves various food groups, from snacks to confectionery, indicating that the problem affects the entire supply chain. The aim of the actions is to determine the source of the infection and limit further escalation of cases. Scale of the problem Cases were reported between March 2025 and March 2026, with reports potentially delayed by up to 99 days. The data includes only laboratory-confirmed cases, and the actual number of infections may be much higher. It is estimated that for every reported case, there are 26 unreported ones. Based on laboratory studies, 189 cases were identified in six provinces of Canada, with the highest numbers in Quebec (88) and Ontario (74).
